Adventure is needed

On June 23, 2009, in General, by steve's waste of time

Had a great time in NYC last weekend. Saturday was especially fun, other than Lindsey feeling bad and having to stay in.

Of course if she was along we might have toned things down a bit.

Brunch at Marco & Pepe’s. I had the BLT I’ve been craving for months.

Then MOMA. Some things there are incredible, others are clearly in there for reasons other than artistic merit. No different than any other gallery, but the collection overall is brilliant.

After MOMA, we wandered to Queens to check out Studio Square. Good beer choices and the right overall setup for a German-style beer garden, but a distinctly Frat vibe. Logo on the signs outside might as well be on a baseball stadium (I like baseball but it’s the wrong style for a beer garden).

So one pitcher later we escaped and made our way to Dutch Kills, a much more laid back (and empty) bar with a focus on cocktails. Very good, thanks to Richie and Giuseppe and their knowledge of mixing and conversation. Definitely plan to go back next time I am in town.

After that we somehow made it to Roberta’s in Brooklyn. This part of the journey is a bit unclear, but it involved the subway, an MTA bus (subway route closures again), Andy jumping in a pool of water, and not dying. The pizza was great though, even if the neighborhood was somewhat sketchy.

We did make it home, on the J train, but I don’t remember anything between the World Trade Center and Andy’s house.

So here is to adventure in NYC, and not dying. Great night, would do again.

Since that last post was flagged for being generic, I’ll elaborate by adding that it sounds like a well-rounded weekend hitting a bunch of cool stops and a few off-the-beaten-path experiences.
