March was Tough

March was a long, busy, tough month, and I slipped. Not so bad I gained any weight, but bad enough that I’m slowing my overall progress rate.

The hardest thing was avoiding late night snacking while working late at night. I hear some people forget to eat when things get hard, but its the opposite for me.

Thankfully because of the way I am keeping track of things, I know exactly where my bad days came from, and hope to use that to avoid too many more.

I guess it can’t be easy the whole way, but I have lost almost 30 pounds since December, and plan to keep pushing.

Nice Saturday Ride

I hit 214 this morning, and I went for a nice long bike ride. Good day for it. I started out with a vague plan to figure out how to get to the Cherry Creek Trail southbound. You can pick it up in the state park, but you come out the south side of the park and there is no more trail.

I did manage to figure it out, but only on the way north. I was on Jordan Road and kept riding until I realized I was going the way to Adam and JoLynn’s place anyways, so I kept going until I got there. I did find the trail on the way back north, but it still basically required at least 4 miles on Jordan Road, which isn’t all that fun. Big road, fast traffic.

29 miles total. Makes for a good but tiring day.

Category Change

Although its accuracy or applicability seems to be frequently debated, I have been treating the Body Mass Index (BMI) calculation as another of many motivational goals for my weight loss attempt. The “official” definitions of healthy weight, overweight, and obese are based on the BMI, and one of the milestones I have been aiming for is the move from the “obese” category to the “overweight” category.

The categories are defined as follows:

BMI Category
<18.5 Underweight
18.5-24.9 Normal Weight
25.0-29.9 Overweight
30.0 and Above Obese

This morning I weighed in at 215.4 lbs, which at my height of about 5-11 makes for a BMI of 30.0. Another pound or so and I’ll drop to 29.9, and officially be “overweight.” At the rate I’m going that should happen in a matter of days.

Subaru Window Switch

The master window switch on my Outback has been acting up for months now. Three of the four switches work fine, but the driver’s window switch (the most important one) has trouble going up. It’s definitely something physical, because if you apply a lot of force it will go. As fun as that is, it isn’t ideal.

I pulled the assembly out of the car tonight and tried to take it apart, but I simply could not figure out how to get to the switch side of the Alps switches, just the back of the PCB. I think I am just going to have to bite the bullet and purchase a new switch, which is entirely un-fun. I am finding prices for this switch assembly between $110 and $150.

I don’t really want to pay that much money, but it looks like I’ll have to. I’m probably going to call a dealer tomorrow and see how much they want. If it isn’t significantly more and I can get it in a day I’ll get it done that much sooner.

On the plus side, getting the assembly out wasn’t too hard.

Bagels

I made bagels tonight. I like baking but don’t do enough of it, and when I do make a loaf of bread it tends to disappear rather quickly. Bagels take care of the disappearance issue, since they come in discrete units. They also have more crust per volume than regular bread, and honestly crust is my favorite part.
