Chicken Stock

Well, I am following the globaldictator.com guide to stock today. I just put the chicken and vegetables in the oven. I hope they smell as good as Andy claims they will.

Happily I was able to put aside my general dislike for internal organs (I will never be a surgeon) and cut that chicken a new one. Reminds me of when I cut my first fillet from the fish I caught. It wasn’t bad at all once I did it.

Aside from the one time the fish jumped off the table when I had one side off and the other half off. Stupid fish.

Battlestar

Shit, I am out of Battlestar Galactica episodes to watch. So much tension left unresolved!

Netflix is My Friend

I watched Whale Rider tonight. It was was of those movies on my huge “I really should watch that film sometime” list. Renting from a store meant going to a store and then paying late fees, but with Netflix I can be super lazy and all that happens is I miss out on getting more films.

Anyways, Whale Rider. I know this one has been out for a long time, and that it was supposed to be good, etc. You can say I’m behind the times if you want, but I’m just glad I got to watch it. I loved the film. Absolutely fantastic.

The Album Leaf

I got bored so I transcribed the lyrics to the hidden song at the end of In a Safe Place. If you want to hear it just crank the volume on the last track starting around 5 minutes in. At least that works on my version.

Oh when I wake up these days
I feel I’m gonna die
Nothing makes my soul feel alright
There’s no comfort in the night

Oh how I love you so
Guess I loved you so
Oh I had to let you go

Oh how I wish I was dreaming
‘Cause I feel I can’t survive
The nightmares fill my mind
I always wake up screaming

Oh how I loved you so
But I had to let you go
Oh how I loved you so
I just thought I should let you know

Oh how I loved you so
But I had to let you go

Oh like this dying season
I had to let you go
Oh like this dying season
I had to let you go

I had to let you go

I Admit To Being A Geek

This is probably the geekiest post in a while, but I just wanted to highly recommend the TV show Battlestar Galactica to anyone looking for some well written television, science fiction or no. I meant to watch one episode tonight and ended up watching three, which is why I am up so late. It’s like that book you can’t put down. I’m severely tempted to start another episode but I have to work tomorrow and I need to get to bed.

Also a quick note to Andy, I do plan on using the global dictator guide to making stock soon. Adventure, excitement, and food.

tagisu.com relaunch

TAGISU was Andy’s idea, and Alex implemented the first software for it, and it was Good. And Later I built in commenting for it, and it was Good. And over the last couple weeks I rebuilt the whole thing and added many features, and it was BOFS.

New features include:
* Page through all the images
* Browse images by user
* Standards-compliant html
* View original image
* View all image thumbails at once (easter egg feature)

The new codebase is much more extensible than the old, so hopefully we’ll be able to add more useful features in the future.

Dude, I Got a Dell?

But don’t worry, it wasn’t a computer. Dell was having some crazy insane deal on their 20″ widescreen LCD display. This is the display that uses the same LCD panel as the Apple 20″ display (though supposedly Dell gets the ones Apple rejects). Apple’s screen only supports digital connections, and my powerbook only has VGA out, so I couldn’t have bought the Apple display if I wanted to. Dell’s screen does support VGA besides DVI and was way cheaper anyways, so I ordered one and it arrived today.

Now of course I couldn’t find my VGA dongle, so I had to go have an adventure. One drive to the plaza later and I came home with the right adapter and a new white Apple keyboard (I can try to be loyal, at least). Now I can use my laptop, which I bought for its mobility, as a full fledged desktop. Is this irony? I’m not sure.

Since Apple is so awesome, all I had to do was plug in the monitor and hook it up to the computer. I turned off mirroring (one button, awesome) and set the resolution to the native 1680×1050. That was it. When I hooked the screen up to my PC earlier I had to go update drivers and other BS to get it to display native res.

As far as image quality goes, this thing blows my PowerBook’s built in screen right out of the water. It’s brighter and has higher contrast and richer colors. It also gives me enough room to stretch out. Photoshop is a whole new experience, and scanning is more pleasant as well.
