Adventioneering

I drove my recently repaired Ford down to Kansas City on Friday night in preparation for our first big Landrover off-road adventure: “Kansas Rocks Recreation Park”:http://www.ksrockspark.com/. The plan was to head there early Saturday morning, meet Ben Wright and Randy, two other ‘Rover owners, and have fun.

On Saturday morning we were up around 6:15 and on the road by 7:00. We fueled up and headed south on Highway 69. Around 60 miles south of KC, though, we “hit a deer(picture)”:http://www.adventioneering.com/o2.php?/image/gal0022/img_0485, which kind of put a damper on the day. We got to the park later than we planned, but quickly found our friends and got on with the adventure. The trails were well laid out but muddy due to recent rain, and both Alex and Ben had to have their trucks winched partway up a slope a couple times by Randy, whose Defender was much more capable than the two Discoveries.

The only casualties for the day, other than deer damage, were:
* Paint. It was hard to avoid some of the close trees and brush.
* The passenger side mirror on Randy’s Defender when he went up the Can Opener
* Alex’s front left tire, which received “quite a nasty gash”:http://www.adventioneering.com/o2.php?/image/gal0022/img_0553.
* Some plastic crap on the front of Alex’s Disco. It was in the way of the hi-lift jack.

After it was all over and we were back at the main parking area, we got the trucks up on a big rock pile to take a few pictures. There should be a couple group shots up in a few days, when I get my film developed, since Victoria’s camera ran out of batteries right at the wrong time.

Whatever else happened though, it was great fun, and hopefully we’ll do it again sometime. Meeting Ben, who many of you know as Xypher or Cypher, was also nice.

I should have the first roll of black and white pictures up in the next day, and the second roll of color pictures will be up in a few days. Until then, check out the digital shots in the “Adventioneering Gallery(Kansas Rocks Photo Gallery)”:http://www.adventioneering.com/o2.php?/image/gal0022!

Did you get any pictures of the (dead) deer?

  2. Steve says:

We’re not even sure where the deer ended up. It went flying and we didn’t get stopped for several hundred feet.

  3. Ross says:

There used to be a baseball player named Rob Deer. He was awesome.
