Friends et. al.

Alex, Victoria, and Bryan arrived around 10:15 tonight. Victoria, Bryan and I left to avoid certain photographic issues, and visited Mr. Buck, Mr. Janke, and Mr. Miller and their friends. We eventually ended up at Boheme and had a good time. Miss Victoria was easily the classiest woman around though.

Whatever else there is to say, having friends visit is a great pleasure and I am glad they are here.

PHP Magic

I have made a few changes to the site that no one but me should ever take notice of unless they break. A few bits of PHP here and there can really work wonders, though. I really do enjoy solving problems with some semi-hacked-together but working code. I’m not even all that concerned with how elegant my solution is as long as the code is clean, understandable, and runs without errors.

Long Walk

If you ever decide to walk in to campus and take pictures along the way, and you are expecting to ride the bus home from campus when you are done, as it is a rather long walk, make sure the bus route that goes to your apartment is actually running.

Art II

Sam does not seem to appreciate the artwork I purchased and finally framed, calling the photograph of an attractive girl’s torso and hips “creepy,” supposedly since he knows the girl (in the sense of talking with her, having never met her in real life). I am naturally saddened by this and wonder if that is the reason he spends zero time in the living room any more.

Incidentally the photograph in question is shown here and I bought it because I find it beautiful.

Art

It’s still nice to walk into the apartment and see the two works of art on the wall. It really changes the character of the room. There is still too much white wall though, so I’ll have to do something about that eventually. Maybe in a few months when I can afford to have more things framed.

Camera More

OK I think Bryan has me beat in the “tiny parts you will lose or break if you take this camera apart” category.

Camera Service Manual

Bryan’s camera isn’t working, and he found a service manual for it. I thought i would post the manual for my camera as well, for no good reason except that he made me think of it.

Enjoy.

Tracking People Down

I’ve been messing around with Orkut lately, and as a result I have been thinking about old friends I haven’t talked to in a while. I have spent a decent amount of time trying to find email addresses for some of these people with essentially no luck.

The moral of the story is if people are important to you don’t lose touch with them, I guess.

I’ll raise a glass to those I can no longer find.

New Photographs

I have put up a few photos from our Vail adventure and the black and white photographs from our recent trip to Kansas City. There should be more stuff from KC coming in a few days.

Windshield Wipers

When I got back to my car this evening there was snow on the windshield. As any normal person might I used the windshield wipers to clean the snow off. Now my wiper switch has a short it in so I’m used to the wipers acting up from time to time, but the actual mechanism has always worked perfectly. This time when I
turn the wipers off they go all the way down then back a quarter of the way up the windshield. I turn them on again and back off, and they do the same thing. Then I find that although the wipers should lock in place when the motor is off, they move freely instead!

What a mess. This will just make the ignorant ones think that my car breaks all the time. Here is a quick rundown of things that are currently broken. Problems that have existed since I bought the car are marked with a *.
# *Annoying squeak in the back left (comes and goes)
# Annoying squeak in the back right (comes and goes)
# *Windshield wiper switch has a short
# *Dashboard light dimmer doesn’t dim
# *Air conditioning doesn’t work
# Windshield wipers don’t lock properly

Its not great but the engine works just fine and that’s what matters most. For what I paid it is a hell of a car.
